"You say death but I do believe I was the one who proved otherwise to an elder brother of yours, not more then a year ago?" Irene asked. She knew that the heir leading the people to battle was deemed stupid amongst their people, but a woman wielding a weapon was simply barbaric, and having been slayed by one was simply pathetic.
She then looked at Amir, then back at him. She saw the youngest girl shift uncomfortably in her seat. Obviously this wasn't the first time such an arrangement had been brought up about her. "The thought of forcing my brother to spend his life with someone he doesn't care for makes me sick. I'd rather be forced into it myself," She said. Amir may have been a Prince, but this was not his burden to bare in the least. "Not to mention it will acomplish little to nothing," She argued. She seemed to much prefer the arrangement where she was the one who had to marry their prince.
"If this arranged marriage is the only thing that will bring about the peace of our two countries, then I agree to it, but you must agree to acknowledge that my people will want a King, and that even if there will never be any affection between us, you must act as though their is in the public eye. Spit at me all you want behind closed doors, but my people will not follow me to trust your people unless they believe I trust you," She said.

"Oh, and how is your family doing? It seems your numbers have dwindeled." he said casualy, really not caring. They had gotten one of his brothers, while they had gotten almost all of her brothers and sisters, not to mention their father. "Don't throw insults around when you have nothing to back them up....wasn't your twin killed but by a single wizard? Losing to an old man. Women do not belong on the battlefield."
"Whoa hold on!" Amir suddenly yelled, interupting the prince "What ya mean that won't acomplish anything?" Amir asked, having stood up. He was a little late to reacting, mostly because he was thinking of how to get Irene out of this situation. He thought he may have stumbeled upon a reasonable argument. "If I'm married to someone in their family, there will be a connection between our families. Sure the countries wont be merged together, but at least that would be enough to call off the war and have an uneasy truce." he said, "I'm pretty sure there would still be assassination attempts or something of the sort, since the truce will be a sketchy one based on just a prince and princesses marriage, but isn't that better than just an all out war? I mean, why involve our people in his when its really between us that the problem exists?" He said, calming down a little bit, though he seemed a little desperate "Plus Im pretty sure it would be more stable than you two..." He looked at Irene "Like you said the people wouldn't balieve him if you two didn't seem to be in love...and after all thats happened, I don't think they'd balieve him even if you two acted." He said, and then looked at Alidaster "With this you both could marry whoever you want and be happy...a happy kind and queen are less likely to start a war, right?" He asked
"......" Alidaster stayed quiet for a moment "....I'm impressed. It seems like someone actualy has a thinking mind in those horned skulls." He said

"He's not thinking, he's worried about me, that's the only time his brain kicks in," Irene said looking at him, giving him a look that told him to sit down and bite it. "Besides, who would he marry? The only eligible sister you have is still a child, and look at her, she's shivering in her seat. She can't stand to look at us, she looks out right scared of my brother," She said, nodding to Kaida.
Kaida jumped in her seat, looking at the Princess and then at her family, and lowered her head a bit, wishing the woman hadn't pointed her out as such a flawed contendor, but she really, really hoped her brother didn't make her marry him. She'd always wanted to find her knight in shining armor, since she'd never been given one like most of the girls she knew. She'd always wished her protector had been chosen for her, so she wouldn't have to go through this.

Amir just clenched his fists, he ignored Irene completely. He wasn't about to let her treat him like a kid again "Dammit don't go picking on her, you're scaring her even more." Amir whispered harshly to Irene. He then looked back to Alidaster "Don't listen to her, she treats me like a kid even though I'm actualy offering something useful for once." Amir said, he wasn't going to back down now, really he could not see their peace lasting long if Irene and Alidaster married, if he were married to the young princess, he could at least be nice to her, and try to actualy have something resembling a relashionship. Unlike those two.
"I must say I am inclined to agree with your younger brother...." he looked at Kaida "We failed to find her a protector when she was young, and now the minute we mention marriage she panics and looks like she's about to cry." He said, and then sighed "I grow weary of this babble..." He said, and then looked at the Neutral party "Would it be OK if we sat on this thought for a while? Emotions and tensions are running high. I balieve it would be best if everyone was allowed to calm down, talk amongst themselves, and we returned here later tonight...or tomorrow if needed." he said

Irene sighed. "I agree, some time to such a drastic decision would be greatly appreciated, if your highness would be kind enough as to lodge us for the evening, so that we may rest and gather our thoughts?" She asked, feeling the same as Alidaster on this issue. She nodded, motioning for the escorts to take the group to a few rooms on opposing sides of the palace.
Irene shot Amir a look as they left for interfeering. She had something she wanted to say to him, but it would obviously have to wait until they were seperated. Kaida on the other hand kept her head down and prayed it wasn't going to end like it appeared.

Amir though just sighed and walked out with the escorts, not caring for the look Irene was giving him. He had decided on it. He remembered that Adina said she didn't want him marrying someone he didn't love....he could say the exact same thing right back to her. He didn't want Irene to marry someone she didn't love...not after all she's been through. Not after losing her twin sister. It was about time he stopped being the cute little brother and actualy did something that mattered.
Though when the door opened, Kazel quickly jumped up, and tackeled Kaida "Found ya!" he said, happy as always "Sheesh, you guys left me behind." He said, Alidaster didn't react to the adopted brother. He knew he was going to follow them. The only reason he didn't bring him along was because his parents would have nagged him. He held no hate for the false brother, but no for him ether.

When they were taken to their rooms Irene wasted no time finding her brother. She passed the guards that were standing out side his door, slipping in, and the first thing she did was nail him one right in the jaw. Violence amongst them wasn't really that strange, after all being demon, it was how they got out their frustrations and anger, a few bruises never hurt anyone. "What the HELL were you thinking going against my word!" She snapped at him.
Kaida smiled when she saw Kazel, and hugged him back, though she got strange looks from the rest of her family. None of them were ever that public in affections. "I'm glad you followed Kazel," She said softly.

"GAH!! Jeeze!" Amir of course not expecting the punch, fell on his ass "Oww..." He rubbed his jaw "Sheesh, you know this tradition of venting can go bite it." he said, not liking being the punching bag. He stood up, taking his hand off his jaw "Well I was obviously thinking more than you were. You know peace wouldn't last between you two. Don't you know how girls are supposed to be to those guys? All silent and proper. You'd eventualy piss him off and this war would start all over again!" He said "And what the hell is wrong with you!? You were never this bossy before! What, is the power of being an heir finally going to your head?" he snapped right back at her
Kazel just grinned, though then noticed how she seemded a bit scared "Eh? You OK Ka-chan? You look like someone spooked you" He said

"Well both sides are going to be willing to make his sacrifices! And you're not thinking. I'm not doing this because I WANT to lose my chance at love. I'm doing this because it's my job to do what's necessary for peace, not yours Amir, it's never been your job!" She snapped back at him. She took a step back and rubbed her temples taking deep breaths to calm herself. "You saw the way he looks at his sister. She's NOTHING to him. if you married him we'd get an alliance, a weak one at that, and the moment that ass decided it wasn't benefiting him anymore, not his country, not his people, not even his family but him, he'd stab right through her to reach your heart if he had to. We must get HIM trapped in the agreement. And I'm the only one who can do that...unless...you're willing to marry him," She said, a weak attempt at a joke.
Kaida looked up at Kazel. "Ah...no I'm fine...It was just scary, having five demons in the room...they really are uncivilized i thought their queen was going to out right attack someone," She said.

"Since when the hell did you become the one that has to shoulder everything!?" He yelled. "Since when the hell can it only be YOU to do something that matters." he snapped, clenching his fists "And while I'm at it, When the hell are you going to stop treating me like I'm still just a little kid!?" he yelled, though then looked at the ground, he was angry, very angry "You think it won't be the same with you? The second that prick decides its not beneficial for him, he'll kill you. After all, why would you need to be on your guard around your very own husband right?" He asked, and then sighed, trying to at least calm down a bit "You're the heir...if you die we're screwed. A weak alliance is the only thing we can get right now, and I'm not about to risk you and your happyness for it." he said, having cooled down, so now he was speaking normaly. "Listen I don't care about who I have to marry, I gave up on pursuing what I truly want years ago. And if me marrying that girl can bring peace and at the same time still keep you safe if everything goes to hell, then I'm going to do it." He said, and crossing his arms, looking at the ground.
He sighed "All my life I've just been cute little brother Amir...the idiot thats always good for a laugh, never takes anything he does or says seriously, and vice versa...it was fun while it lasted, but when I actualy got stuck in that role, it started to hurt. What have I done useful in my life? Nothing. I've denied going to the battlefield, I haven't lifted a finger to help mother. All I've done is goof off...so now that I have an opertunity to help you of all people, I want to take it...like I said I gave up on my happyness years ago. I don't want you to lose yours to something that will fail in the end anyway"
"Huh? They seemed like nice people to me...though that green one looked kinda sad...did someone call him a bad word or push him?" He asked. Kazel was an idiot, but he was brilliant at reading peoples facial expressions. He could tell how someone's feeling even if they had a rock for a face.

Irene's expression shifted to a sad one. She wrapped her arms around him in an embrace that just may have been too friendly for siblings. "You can't do this Amir. You don't have it in you. You'd never be able to deal with the human court. I've been with the human's much more then you have, I know them," She said, bringing his face close to his, her lips a hairs breath away from his. "I have to do this," She said softly, and brought her lips to his. A real, gentle kiss. It lasted for a moment, before she broke it off and spoke softly to him. "But that doesn't mean you have to leave. Stay by my side, become my personal guard," She said.
Kaida looked at him as she was shown her room. "I guess," She said. "Good night Kazel," She said, before closing the door, of course he couldn't come in that would be horribly in appropriate.

Though despite her gesture and offer, something was off. Amir was constantly pleading her for a kiss, and would always get exstatic whenever she agreed, and then he'd pout when she'd trick him somehow. But now he had gotten a kiss, a real, warm embrace and kiss from her. He should have been bouncing off the walls with joy, but instead, he looked tired, he wasn't even surprised "Hah...quit making fun of me." he said, he was looking down and to the side. He gripped her arms gently and pulled them off of him, taking a few steps away from her "I can't even protect you from something as simple as an arranged marriage...how am I supposed to protect you from someone who's strong enough to get past all the other guards, and get close enough to you to strike?" He asked, a sad smile on his face. "I'm feeling kinda tired...I'll see you tomorrow." he said, obviously that being her cue to leave.

Irene felt like she'd just ripped his heart from his chest, but sadly enough, it wasn't about her, it wasn't about him, it wasn't even about their family. It was about their country, and their people. Being royalty was never easy, and this was the hardest thing she had to do in her life. She nodded slowly. "I'll see you tomorrow then, good night," She said, leaving back to the room she'd been offered, but the only thing she could thing she could think about, was if she had just lost the only sibling she had left.

"....." Amir just fell on his back where he stood, hitting the ground with a thud. For some reason he felt extremely weak "Dammit...I can't do anything right...I'm so useless..." he muttered.
The next morning though Amir was nowhere to be found. He had left a note in his room though that he had gone back home. He didn't state any reason, he just wrote that he went back home. Insulting or not to the other family, he didn't care. He couldn't stay there any longer. He just packed up what he had and went back home on foot. He knew that if he went to that metting he'd burst again. Make up another stupid idea that would just be shot down, get in the way again. He was useless anyway, no point in him being there, right...?

When Irene had found the note she slammed her fist on the table. "God damnit Amir," She growled, hunched over for a minute. She was counting on him to be there so she could keep her nerve. She didn't want to do this either, but there was no other way. This was for their people. It was what it meant to be royalty! Why was he taking it as if she'd shouted that she'd hated him! "Irene?" Her mother called to her from outside the room. She took a deep breath, composing herself. "Amir must've been feeling ill, he went home," She said. Her mother nodded, though both of them understood that it wasn't that, but neither said anything about it.
When they families gathered it seemed again that the Ashendale family had lost another prince, now only the Queen and Princess. Irene wanted to get this over with.
